August 10, 2019
Tim convened the meeting at 1:00 with the following members in attendance: Tim, Bill, Mike, Mary, Bob, and
Scott. We were pleased to note that Jennifer T. has joined our group.
Bob led off with the treasurer’s report and indicated the ANAPC bank account reflects a balance of $325.22.
This month’s photo contest with subject “Old or Abandoned” resulted in a total of 10 excellent entries. It was
difficult to choose a winner but Mike S. took first place honors with his image titled “1940’s Dodge.”
It was agreed that the photo contest topic for August-September would be people photography.
It was agreed that the field trip to St Gauden’s National Historical Park will be postponed to a later date.
Mike conducted an interesting demonstration depicting the steps involved in obtaining a custom white balance. Mike
took various live images and using the histogram and a gray card was able to arrive at a custom white balance.
Next, Bill discussed various aspects of astral photography. Included were topics such as planning, equipment,
and shooting tips as well as software tools such as Photo Pills and Starstax. Bill also explained the 500 Rule and
how to avoid trails or blurry images due to the earth’s rotation. Possible subjects for astral photography could
include the Milky Way, the moon, meteors, individual stars and constellations.
Due to time constraints Tim will postpone discussion of black and white photography until the September 14th meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:15.
