A Notch Above Photography Club
Minutes
January 12, 2019
Tim called the meeting to order at 1:15 PM. Present were Bill H, Bob T, Tim W, and John F.
The library has displayed our monthly and annual photo contest winners from Jan to Dec in the library’s meeting room where they say they will get the best viewing exposure. Thanks to Tim and Mary for creating the very nice display. We’ll distribute the 8×10 prints to the photographers at next month’s meeting.
Bob reported on the club’s bank statement balance if $250.13. With outstanding checks, the available funds are $115.19.
Bob set up a hands-on demo of the affect of aperture setting on Depth Of Field. He demonstrated the change in sharpness at various aperture settings, showing the results on screen. This then led to a group discussion on hyperfocal distance.
We viewed a video by Dr. Edmund Feldman: A Classical Approach to Critiquing. A 4 step process on a very in depth approach to seeing all aspects of a photograph. After some discussion of the video and the famous photograph it critiqued, we put to use what we learned by critiquing several photos bravely submitted by Bill.
The month’s photo contest entries on “Composition Elements” were viewed and critiqued on screen via the ANAPC website then voted on – the winner of the month was Bill H’s “Boardwalk at the Wild Center, NY”. Congratulations Bill on a very nice photo.
While on the website a concern was expressed as to whether everyone was receiving the emails sent from the site.
Some present said they were and some thought they weren’t. Bob T. will send out a couple of test emails to resolve the question.
Future meetings: A lighting workshop by John sometime in the spring and photo videos of general interest, one on Ansel Adams for instance.
The topic for this month’s photo contest is very appropriate: “Winter Water” (ice, streams, icicles, etc.). The meeting ended shortly after 3:30.
