A Notch Above Photography Club
Minutes
August 11th, 2018

The meeting began promptly at 1:00 with the following members in attendance:  Mary and Tim, Robert, Karina, Bob, and Scott.
We’d also like to welcome Nikki W. as our newest member. Nikki has a degree in Fine Arts with a concentraion in photography.

The first order of business was for each member to provide introductory comments regarding their photo experience, interests, etc., as
a means to introduce themselves to Nikki.

We then discussed content for future meetings and agreed to the following:

September: Tim   – Selections and Masking with On1 Raw 2018
                         Scott – Introduction to Corel Painter 2019 – Auto-Painting
October – Bob – Time Lapse Photography
November – Karina – Macro Photography
December – Guest Speaker Kris Dobbins (Professional Photographer) – Wedding Photography
January – Mary – Image Composition
2019 – Nikki – Flash Photography

The next discussion concerned possible destinations for a Fall Photo Walk and Supper.  Tim provided details for two possibilities and both are excellent:
Option 1: Flume Cascade, Silver Cascade, Wiley House and Saco Lake.
Option 2: Profile Lake and The Basin.
We will finalize our plans for a Fall Photo Walk with supper afterwards at our September meeting.

We’ll have a field trip in September to Sabbaday Falls.  Concensus opinion indicates a date after the 8th is preferable
Either before or after the photo walk we’ll have a pot luck picnic.  We need signups for a varied menu (especially salad and fruit).
We will also finalize these plans at our September meeting.

Bob reported that our current financial statement reflects a balance of $230.07.

Scott conducted a poll at the request of John (who was unable to attend this meeting) regarding use of popup flashes
and/or use of an external flash. Three members own an external flash and most others have a built in popup flash.
Members felt a presentation regarding artificial light would be beneficial.

Robert presented topics of interest regarding iPhone Photography (and cell phone photography in general).  Cell phones are now capable
of capturing high quality images and post processing is possible without using a computer.
Robert showed 3 videos:
– How to Hold the iPhone
– Setting Focus and Auto Exposure Lock
– Editing with Snapseed
Robert’s presentation was met with marked enthusiasm and various questions and comments.

We’re proud to announce that Bob T. is the winner of our June – July Photo Contest with his entry “Ruby Throated Hummingbird.”  Bob said that it took over 50 shots to capture the image he was looking for but perservence finally paid off with this great pic. Nice job, Bob!

Due to lack of time Tim will present his discussion of Selections and Masking with On1 Raw at our next meeting.

We then reviewed and critiqued all images for the current cycle Photo Contest. This is always a fun exercise!

The theme for our July-August Photography is “Black and White.”

The meeting adjourned at 3:30 sharp.
