Minutes of the May 12th, 2018 ANAPC Meeting
Members present: Tim, Mary, Bob, John, Scott, and Peter. We wish a special welcome to our newest member, Robert B.
Scott kicked off the meeting with some background discussion for the proposed flower picture workshop. Following that, he
presented a slide show depicting various lenses and suggestions for taking high quality macro images of flowers.
Peter then treated us to a special presentation in which he projected on screen his high quality images of the Himalayas. Everyone was amazed by the degree of resolution and extraordinary detail he achieves with his Arca-Swiss system. Peter also edited various images in Photoshop using curves to enhance dynamic range. Thanks, Peter, for an enjoyable and enlightening experience!
Bob Thibault was elected Treasurer. He will open a checking account for the club and manage funds.
A major priority for this meeting was to present ideas for a monthly photo contest. Tim led this discussion and walked us through
various rules and options for conducting the contest. A summary of those rules is as follows:
The club voted to institute yearly dues of $35. These funds will be applied toward the monthly cost of Meetup (unless we find a suitable substitute), two $25 guest speaker honorariums, and an annual photo contest prize (to be determined) awarded each December. The club dues are in lieu of any photo submission fee for the contest.
The monthly photo contest will be open for posting, commenting and voting by both active club members and sign-ups on Meetup, but only dues paying members will be eligible for the annual prize.
Contest entrants are limited to two photos per month, of which only 1 can be a previously taken photo, and a specific photo can be submitted only once per year. A previously taken photo must still fit the category for the current month.
Entrants are encouraged to post their photo(s) in the first 2-3 weeks of each month cycle for maximum visibility and to give others a chance to vote and comment.
If you post a photo on either site you must comment on at least one other photo.
Photos should be posted on both the website Photo Contest page and the Photos page of Meetup, again for maximum visibility.
Contest categories will be determined going forward, and will be a mix of “open” and “specific”. For the May-June cycle the category is “flowers”.
We will explore the possibility of displaying prints of contest winners (members are responsible for printing their own winning photos).
Monthly and annual winner(s) will be posted on both website and Meetup.
Monthly awards will be listed according to category, e.g. “Best in Flowers”.
We should also mention that Mary provided a tray of pastries which were enjoyed by one and all. Thanks, Mary!
The meeting adjourned at 4:20.
Ideas and topics for a June agenda will be provided by email at a later date!
Thanks to one and all for a great meeting!
